Characteristics of the MOOC 1.1 The aim of studying this course is to form a comprehensive understanding of museum studies as an interdisciplinary academic and professional field by developing students’ knowledge of the historical evolution, theoretical foundations, social roles, and contemporary practices of museums. The course seeks to provide learners with a systematic understanding of museums as cultural, educational, scientific, and social institutions that preserve cultural heritage, shape collective memory, support public education, and contribute to cultural economy and tourism. Particular attention is given to museum governance, collection management, conservation and preservation, exhibition planning, interpretation, digital transformation, ethical standards, and the global role of museums in the twenty-first century, including international and national contexts. 1.2 Objectives of study: – to provide theoretical knowledge of the history, concepts, and methodological foundations of museum studies; – to develop understanding of museums as social institutions responsible for cultural heritage preservation, education, and public engagement; – to develop practical competencies in museum governance, collection management, conservation, exhibition planning, interpretation, and digital practices. 2. Learning Outcomes: upon successful completion of the course “Museum Studies”, students acquire comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical foundations, historical development, classification, and social functions of museums. Students develop the ability to analyze museums as cultural and social institutions, assess their role in heritage preservation, education, tourism, and cultural economy, and understand professional standards of museum governance, ethics, and administration. 3. Prerequisites. To successfully complete this MOOC, learners must possess the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired through the study of the following courses: Customs, traditions and culture of people of the world, Fundamentals of tourism and local history work. 4. Postrequisites. The knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired through the study of this MOOC are required for the successful completion of the following courses: Directing individual tours. 5.
